More phonemes (group 1)

This term we are working the first group of phonemes: /s/, /a/, /t/, /i/, /p/, /n/. We identify words beginning with those sounds and soon we will able to put them together making simple words. We have learnt the half, and we keep practicing with songs, games and handicrafts. Do you like our snakes? We use them to practice the /s/ sound with this song taken from Jolly Phonics:

Este trimestre estamos trabajando el primer grupo de fonemas: /s/, /a/, /t/, /i/, /p/, /n/. Los identificamos en palabras que empiezan con esos sonidos y pronto seremos capaces de ponerlos juntos y de formar sencillas palabras en inglés. Starting with Phonics

The Preschool oldest children have started working with phonics. This year we are going to focus on Captain Jack Magic phonics, although we will also use some other resources such as Super Simple Learning or Jolly Phonics.

Los más mayors de Infantil hemos empezado a trabajar con la fonética. Este año vamos a centrarnos en Captain Jack Magic Phonics, aunque también usaremos otros recursos como Super Simple Phonics Fun y Jolly Phonics.

A few days ago we pracised with Kassi a not very easy sound; /s/, and it is very difficult for us not to pronounced an “e” before the s in words like “star”, “snake”, “skeleton”, etc., but we are working on it. We learnt a song about the “sssun” and we played to find the drawings whose word contains that sound by using the smart board games.

Hace unos cuantos días practicamos con Kassi un sonido no muy fácil; /s/, y es muy difícil para nosotros no pronunciar una “e” antes de palabras como “star”, “snake”, “skeleton”, etc., pero estamos trabajando en ello. Aprendimos una canción sobre el “ssssol” y jugamos a encontrar dibujos cuya palabra contiene ese sonido usando los juegos de la pizarra digital.

Later, we draw in a poster drawing some suns in order to not forget the song and we stack bright suns made of clay.

Después, hicimos un mural dibujando algunos soles para no olvidarnos de la canción y pegamos brillantes soles hechos de plastilina.  

Reading in English

Our teacher is very happy because all our work in phonics is producing good results. We still find some words with tricky sounds, but both 5 years- old groups are able to deal with a lot of them. Not only we have improved our pronunciation, but also we are now able to read some English words thanks to the segmenting and blending process.

Nuestra profe está muy contenta porque todo nuestro trabajo en fonética está dando buenos resultados. Aun encontramos algunas palabras con sonidos difíciles, pero ambos grupos de 5 años somos capaces de manejarnos con muchos de ellos. No solo hemos mejorado nuestra pronunciación, sino que también ahora somos capaces de leer algunas palabras inglesas gracias al proceso de segmentación y ensamblaje.

/g/ - The water gurgles and the goat eats grass

Last week we learnt a new sound: /g/. This time we learnt not only the Jolly Phonics song, but also the Captain Jack Magic Phonics´. Kassi showed us how to pronounce it properly and later we practice with these useful games to help us to read and write in English in the future. They are quite difficult at the beginning, but we are very clever and a few minutes later we got used to them. See us playing!

La semana pasada semana hemos aprendido un Nuevo sonido: /g/. Esta vez no solo aprendimos la canción de Jolly Phonics, sino tambiçen la de Captain Jack Magic Phonics. Kassi nos mostró cómo pronunciarlo correctamente y después practicamos con juegos muy útiles para ayudarnos a leer y escribir en inglés en el futuro. Son un poco difíciles al principio, pero somos muy listos y  tras unos minutos nos acostumbramos a ellos. ¡Míranos jugar!

I´m talking about is Super Simple Learning, where you can find fantastic resources and tips for your students and children created by teachers and psychologists. Playing phonics games

It´s been too long since we worked with phonics before Easter. For this reason, we have reviewed all the phonemes with their Jolly Phonics song and we have also start playing with different games taken by Macmillan web site for teachers.

Ha pasado mucho tiempo desde que trabajamos con la fonética antes de Semana Santa. Por este motivo, hemos repasado todos los fonemas con sus correspondientes canciones de Jolly Phonics y también hemos empezado a jugar con diferentes juegos cogidos de la página web de Macmillan para profesores. 

We are learning a lot of new words and its successful pronunciation having a lot of fun!

¡Estamos aprendiendo un montón de palabras nuevas y su correcta pronunciación divirtiéndonos un montón! 

/d/ - Play on my drum

This time, the new sound we have learnt is /d/. We can find it in words like “dinosaur”, “diamond” and “drum”. We sang the jolly phonics song and we made this simple drum to play and practice the phoneme. 

Esta vez, el nuevo sonido que hemos aprendido es /d/. Podemos encontrarlo en palabras como “dinosaurio”, “diamante” y “támbor”. Cantamos la canción de Jolly Phonics e hicimos este sencillo

/m/ - Many meals

Last week we learnt a new English sound: /m/. It is very similar to /n/, so be careful and try not to confuse them! Here you have the song to practice. We reviewed all the sounds that we have learnt during this year and we practiced some blending activities to read the sounds and form words with them.

La semana pasada aprendimos un nuevo fonema inglés: /m/. Es muy parecido a /n/, ¡así que tened cuidado de no confundirlos! Repasamos todos los sonidos que hemos aprendido y practicamos algunas actividades de “ensamblaje” para leer los sonidos y formar palabras con ellos.

As we were also studying the meals in our English unit, so we reviewed the vocabulary and grammar this funny song.

Como también estábamos aprendiendo las comidas en nuestra unidad didáctica, repasamos el vocabulario ya la gramática con esta divertida canción:

Later, the teachers gave us pictures with different food and they asked us “Do you like…?”, and we had to answer “Yes, I do / No, I don´t”. On the back, we draw our favourite meal, saying the word in English... mmmm, delicious!!!

Después, las profess nos repartieron dibujos con diferentes comidas y nos preguntaron “¿Te gusta…?”, y nosotros teníamos que responder “Sí, me gusta / No, no me gusta.” Por la parte de atrás dibujamos nuestra comida favorita, diciendo la palabra en inglés... mmmm, ¡delicioso!

/n/ - Hear the aeroplane

The next sound we have learnt is /n/. First we practiced the phoneme and we found some English words with that sound. Later we learnt the song, which talked about the noise of the aeroplane /nnnnnn/, so we made our own aeroplanes to practice the phoneme playing with them.

El siguiente sonido que hemos aprendido es /n/. Primero practicamos el fonema y encontramos algunas palabras inglesas con ese sonido. Después aprendimos la canción, que hablaba del sonido que hacen los aviones /nnnnnn/, así que hemos hecho nuestros propios aviones para practicar el fonema jugando con ellos.

/i/ - Inky the mouse

We have learnt the sound /i/ before the holidays, but with all the essays for the Christmas festival we couldn´t make any craft. Today we review all the sound we have learnt with Kassi and we made a funny craft to understand what story tells the sound /i/ song.

Ya habíamos aprendido el sonido /i/ antes de las vacaciones, pero con todos los ensayos para el festival de Navidad, no pudimos hacer ninguna manualidad. Hoy hemos revisados todos los sonidos que hemos aprendido con Kassi y hemos hecho una divertida manualidad para entender que historia cuenta la canción del sonido /i/

With this activity now we understand what happens in the story and why the pet´s name is Inky!

Con esta actividad ahora ya entendemos que pasa en la historia y por qué el nombre de la mascota es Inky.

/p/ - Puff out the candles

In our phonics session we started playing with letter formation activities.  Kassi showed us that we can form different words joining sounds together, and if we move them, we can form another word.

En nuestra session de fonética empezamos a jugar con actividades de formación de palabras. Kassi nos mostró que podemos formar diferentes palabras juntando sonidos, y que si los movemos, podemos formar una palabra distinta. 

We also learnt a new sound: /p/. We sang the following song:

También aprendimos un sonido nuevo: /p/. Cantamos la siguiente canción:

Look our pink cake! We made it with some plasticine, and we had a great time decorating it. The teachers loves our designs!

 This week the five-years children learnt a new English sound; /t/. These are some words with this sound: tiger, table, turtle, time…  and tennis, as you can hear with our song!
