Christmas Festival

Today it was a special day because we celebrated our own Christmas. Our family came to the school to visit our Living Bethlehem. We dance and sang carols. This is the English one;

Hoy ha sido un día especial en el cole porque hemos celebrado nuestra particular Navidad. Nuestras familias vinieron para visitar nuestro Belén Viviente. Nosotros cantamos bailamos villancicos. Este es el de inglés:

Winter is coming...

Wow!!! The weather is so cold these days… Winter is coming in a few days, so our season tree must change its appearance. We colored some snowflakes and some funny snowmen. And, also Christmas is around the corner, so we also draw some decoration for the tree, like candies, Christmas balls… Look, now our tree is ready for the new season!

Guau!!! Hace mucho frío últimamente… El invierno llegará en algunos días, así que nuestro árbol de las estaciones tiene que cambiar de apariencia. Hemos coloreado algunos copos y muñecos de nieve. Y también Navidad está a la vuelta de la esquina, así que también hemos dibujado decoración navideña para el árbol, como caramelos, bolas… Mirad, ¡ahora nuestro árbol está preparado para la nueva estación!

Today we celebrated Thanksgiving Day!!!

The 3 years-old kids made a beautiful necklace and we stamped our hands to give our turkey some feathers. Look the mural, it´s really cool! Later, we shared all the candies we brought to the classroom with our friends.

¡Hoy hemos celebrado el Día de Acción de Gracias!

Los niños de 3 años hemos hecho un bonito collar y hemos plasmado nuestras manos para ponerle plumas a nuestro pavo. Mirad el mural, ¡está muy chulo! Después, hemos compartido los caramelos que hemos traído a clase con nuestros compañeros.

The 4 and 5 years-old children finished the mural today. First, we talk about what are we thankful for; we are really lucky to have a family, a school, to be healthy… So we made a lot of drawings about our blessings and we stack them on the mural saying; “Thank you God for the food/family/ friends…” (depending on what we had drawn). Later, we share the candies remembering how the Indians and Pilgrims shared the food a lot of years ago.

Los niños de 4 y 5 años hemos terminado el mural hoy. Primero, hemos hablado sobre las cosas por las que tenemos que estar agradecidos; somos muy afortunados por tener una familia, colegio, estar sanos… Así que hemos hecho un montón de dibujos sobre nuestras bendiciones y las hemos pegado en el mural diciendo: “Gracias, Dios, por la comida/familia/amigos…” (dependiendo de lo que hubiéramos dibujado). Después, hemos compartido los caramelos recordando como los nativos y los peregrinos compartieron la comida hace un montón de años.

Painting the mural

Here you have the pictures of the mural we are painting. There you can see two pilgrims (boy and girl) and one Indian sharing the food… mmm, it seems to be a turkey and a pumpking!

But, there is an empty dish… Will they share something more???

Aquí teneis las fotos del mural que estamos pintando. Podéis ver dos peregrinos (chico y chica) y un indio compartiendo la comida… mmm, ¡parece que son un pavo y una calabraza!

Pero, hay un plato vacío…¿¿¿Compartirán algo más???

Pilgrims and indians

We are learning a lot about the story of Thanksgiving, whose protagonists are the pilgrims that came from England and the Native Americans (Indians). We made some crafts to look like them. 

We will take it home on Thursday!

Estamos aprendiendo mucho sobre la historia de Acción de Gracias, cuyos protagonistas son los peregrinos que vinieron de Inglaterra y los nativos americanos (indios). Hemos hecho una manualidad para parecernos a ellos. ¡Nos la llevaremos a casa el jueves!

The turkey!

We can´t celebrate Thanksgiving Day without a turkey, so we made one by coloring, cutting and sticking its pieces on a cupboard. The eyes are made of plasticine and the turkey has a pilgrim´s black hat.

We are looking forward to taking it home!

No podemos celebrar el Día de Acción de Gracias sin un pavo, así que hemos hecho uno coloreando, cortando y pegando en una cartulina sus piezas. Los ojos están hechos de plastilina y lleva un sombrero negro de peregrino.

Esta semana hemos empezado a prepararnos para el Día de Acción de Gracias. Hemos aprendido como los peregrinos llegaron a América desde Reino Unido en el barco Mayflower, y cómo los indios les ayudaron a sobrevivir. We had a lot of fun playing to “Turkey-turkey… chicken! / Pilgrim-pilgrim…indian!”.

Nos lo pasamos muy bien jugando a “Pavo-pavo… ¡pollo! / Peregrino-peregrino… ¡indio!”.

We are sure that the next week will be full of funny Thanksgiving activities!

Some information about Thanksgiving Day

Next week we are going to celebrate Thanksgiving Day, but… what is it?

La próxima semana vamos a celebrar el Día de Acción de Gracias, pero… ¿en qué consiste?

El Día de Acción de Gracias, que tiene lugar el cuarto jueves de Noviembre, es una de las celebraciones anuales más importantes en estados Unidos. Es un día en la que la familia se reúne para compartir la comida, normalmente pavo asado con puré de patatas y salsa de arándanos como acompañamiento, y frecuentemente pastel de calabaza de postre.

La buena comida no es la única razón por la que los americanos desean que llegue el Día de Acción de Gracias. Para muchos es también el principio de cuatro días libres; el jueves es un día festivo pero es frecuente cogerse el viernes libre también, haciendo puente.

Se dice que el origen de Acción de Gracias tiene lugar en el siglo diecisiete con la llegada a Norteamérica de colonos o peregrinos de Inglaterra. Uno de los primeros grupos llegó en Noviembre de 1620 en el barco Mayflower, pero muchos de ellos murieron debido al habre y la enfermedad durante el frío invierno. Los nativos americanos de la región los ayudaron a sobrevivir enseñándoles cómo pescar y cultivar maíz. En Noviembre de 1621, en el primer aniversario de su llegada, invitaron a algunos de los nativos. Este evento es considerado como la primera comida del Día de Acción de Gracias, y desde entonces, se conmemora cada año.

Dinosaurs!!!

The 5 years-children have been learning a lot about the dinosaurs with their teachers María and Sito. Here you have a present to remember all that you learnt with them.

Los niños de 5 años han estado aprendiendo un montón de cosas sobre los dinosaurios con sus profes María y Sito. Aquí tenéis un regalo para recordar todo lo que habéis aprendido con ellos.

/p/ - Puff out the candles

In our phonics session we started playing with letter formation activities.  Kassi showed us that we can form different words joining sounds together, and if we move them, we can form another word.

En nuestra session de fonética empezamos a jugar con actividades de formación de palabras. Kassi nos mostró que podemos formar diferentes palabras juntando sonidos, y que si los movemos, podemos formar una palabra distinta. 

We also learnt a new sound: /p/. We sang the following song:

Look our pink cake! We made it with some plasticine, and we had a great time decorating it. The teachers loves our designs!

¡Mira nuestra tarta rosa! La hicimos con plasti, y nos lo pasamos muy bien decorándola. ¡A las profes les encantan nuestros diseños!

Unit 2

We have started the unit 2 this week:

Hemos empezado la unidad 2 esta semana:

-          3 years: the face

 We are learning the parts of the face: eyes, ears, mouth, nose… We played some TPR (Total Physical Response) games, and we made activities with the flashcards and we draw our friends´ faces on the smartboard.

Estamos aprendiendo las partes de la cara: ojos, orejas, boca, nariz… Hemos jugado algunos TPR juegos, actividades con las flashcards y hemos dibujado la cara de nuestros amigos en la pizarra mágica.

-          4 years: the clothes

It´s autumn and the weather is getting colder, so we have to put on our coats, jumpers, troussers, boots, hats, scarves and gloves. We play to put on and take off the teacher´s clothes; we give some orders to our friends and they had to obey like robots: “Take off your jumper! / Put on María´s jumper!”. We had to admit that they didn´t fit us very good, but it was a funny game!

Es otoño y el tiempo se está volviendo cada vez más frío, así que tenemos que ponernos nuestros abrigos, jerseys, pantalones, botas, gorros, bufandas y guantes. Hemos jugado a ponernos y quitarnos la ropa de la profe, dábamos órdenes a nuestros amigos y ellos tenían que cumplirlas como robots: “Quítate el jersey / Ponte el jersey de la profe”. Hemos de admitir que no nos quedaban muy bien, ¡pero fue un juego muy divertido!

-          5 years: the classroom

The teacher read us a story about a boy who asked for crayons, pencils… and other school objects to his teacher. This boy was a disaster, because he finally lost everything under the table, so his teacher gets angry and asks him to pick up them. We learnt the vocabulary and we have reproduced some parts of the story.

La profe nos leyó una historia sobre un chico que pedía pinturas, lápices… y otros materiales escolares a su profe. Este chico era un desastre, porque al final perdió todo bajo su mesa, así que su profe se enfada y le pide que los recoja. Hemos aprendido el vocabulario y hemos reproducido algunas partes de la historia.
